Barnes Miller Child Development Center

Kindergarten & Afterschool

We offer an academics based morning Kindergarten program (8:30-12:30). During the morning our students work in large and small groups and participate in reading, writing, and comprehensive skills through phonics based and whole word programs. The children are then immersed into mathematics using a manipulative based technique.

In addition to reading, writing, and math programs we also have science and creative expression through art and dramatic play. Monthly field trips to the local library are planned in addition to field trips, which will enhance curricular projects.

For the school aged children at Barnes-Miller, we offer a flexible program. We believe children need a chance to play after a long day at elementary school. Each day the students choose activities and games to play in small groups. Art projects, reading, dramatic play and a creative center are options for afternoon activities. A homework room is offered for children to complete their work before arriving home to enable more family time.
